The Bold and the Beautiful: Fall Goes Bridal

There’s more to fall than pumpkin spice lattés – just ask an autumn bride! If the leafy season plays host to your wedding day, you’re already well versed in the benefits that these in-between temperatures can bring to your special day. With an eye on the latest collections from the fall runways, we round up the latest trends in fall’s most beautiful bridal wear.

Keep It Simple, Sweetheart

Sleek, minimalist and simplistic - that was the overriding theme at the bridal runway shows this fall season. Channel your inner Grace Kelly in a high-waisted, long-sleeved design, a particular favorite from the likes of Reem Acra and Carolina Herrera while Viktor and Rolf added a feminine touch with picture perfect flower motifs sewn along their structured waistbands.

Whether it’s a swingy party dress for the reception or a sophisticated little number for your city hall do, an understated sheath of pure white is guaranteed to stay en vogue in your wedding photos for years to come.

And ultimately, shouldn’t your personal comfort get top preference? Remember when Carrie Bradshaw swapped custom Vivienne Westwood for a little no-name brand silk suit? Cool, contemporary and one-of-a-kind – a girl after our own hearts!

A Royal Affair

Then there’s the quintessential fairytale bride. Queen Victoria, eat your heart out! You’ll be spoilt for choice with the selection of uber-accessorized gowns and pretty princess dresses on offer this fall bridal season.

There’s the unabashed romance of flower-embossed tulle at Elie Saab to the sheer splendor of faint metallic and floral embellishments at Zuhair Murad. Temperley London (only Kate Middleton’s favorite designer) shows us how to inject a touch of autumn into bridal wear with delicately embroidered flower brocade all along their fall gowns – both in classic white-on-white fashion as well as more eye-catching pinks and greens.

With such all-out glamour, we’d expect nothing less than caviar canapés and champagne cuvées at sunset. With your guests all decked out in black tie garb against the natural fall landscape, we can’t think of a more eye-catching aesthetic.

Unfussed and Loving It

We get it – not every bride wants the traditional poufy gown and tiara. Is barefoot and beaming more your style? You’re in good company – with the rising trend towards understated gowns, designers like Monique Lhuillier and Marchesa have all introduced decidedly toned-down versions of their classic ballroom attire. Maybe your special day is of the more informal, come-as-you-are variety: a garden tea party among the daisies, a cocktail shindig on the beach or a backyard barbecue at your folks’ house. Multi-hued fall sunsets cast the ideal backdrop for a bit of wedded bliss dressed up or down.

Simply look to Julianne Hough for inspiration – the petite dancer and her hockey-playing beau tied the knot in the open grass fields close to her childhood home in Idaho. Why not flip the script and follow her lead? You and your bridesmaids get to play dress up in rustic lace and vintage pearls while the gents can go full hipster in turn-ups and braces. Top it off with a rip-roaring barn dance under the stars. Ho Hey!
